ShART.

Or Shoe Art as I have cleverly combined.
I came across this amazingly creative shoes/sculptures/works of art by Kobi Levi. A freelance designer who specialises in footwear design.
'The combination of the image and footwear creates a new hybrid and the design/concept comes to life. The piece is a wearable sculpture. It is "alive" with/out the foot/body'.

'Chewing Gum' (leather 2009)
'Tulip' (man-made leather and textiles 2003)
Double Boot (leather, 2000)

Blogging on a poorly day....

Ok so no work for me today. My tonsils are a chic shade of crimson with beautiful white speckled detailing.
BUT, I thought I'd show you a few of my latest additions to my wardrobe. They are way cute.

This necklace is one of my faves! I'm obsessed with charm necklaces at the moment and although I have LOADS, I couldn't help pick up this little beauty from Topshop, £12.

Got these funky pumps from Primarni for only £8! I really like the cute stud detailing. I have had lots of compliments on these. Forget heels - it's practically Winter.

Internal Affairs.

Sorry I havnt posted for a week or so, been very busy and smiley at my new internship at Kite Kids.

Kite Kids is a 'planet-friendly kit for kids' company launched in 2007. Since then the business has evolved from it's two creators Jo and Richard and now has a small team and two investors in the company. From initially selling locally at craft fetes and such like, Kite Kids have expanded into national trade shows and selling to independent childrens retailers around the UK.
The product, I am in love with. Comfy, bold and has a cute jack wills/fat face vibe with some real gems that would sit well with next and h&m. Kite have also branched from just 2-11 years to baby and toddler clothing.
And drumroll.... My job is to put together the new S/S 11 brochure along with some seriously worthwhile things. Will post more promise!
They have also decided to keep me for another 2 more months- with pay! I'm having a great time here.

Geek Hit London. End of.

Looking down at my 17 papercuts, I know I've done the right thing.
I have decided to leave my placement. And I will tell you why.

Internship in·tern·ship [in-turn-ship] any official or formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession: an internship for management trainees.

My internship (which I will still not name) did not live up to my expectations. Please don't get me wrong, I am willing to be the bonniest filer in the land. I am willing to spend my own money, which I now have very little, running around London for you. I am willing to make your tea and photocopy your emails, file them straightly and neatly. I am willing to be treated as if I don't exist and have my personal space invaded on the tube every morning. I am even willing to run out of time to eat my lunch for you.
The only request I asked for was some training. An insight into the clothing supplying business. Some relevant information of the relationship between a buyer and a supplier. How they do business, that sort of thing.
My placement offered me none of this. From the get up, there was no structure, no understanding and no time to be invested in 'the work experience girl'.
When I heard that 'generally our interns help me in the office' I knew I had to find something else that can offer me some skills and CV gems. This is exactly what I did.
However I do owe them a 'thank-you'. Thankyou for teaching me that if you feel you are being undervalued, if you feel that you are not getting anything out of your work experience, ASK them. Ask everyone. Make a plan and present it to them. Remember some firms want to exploit their interns and treat them as robots. Still not naming any names.

The good news is I start my new internship with Kite Kids. An exciting local business with beautiful beautiful Eco friendly product.

So maybe I've lost a friend in fashion. Something tells me I'll be just fine.

Geek Hits London: Day 6 of placement

Happy Tuesday. Today was a better day, despite being whacked in the chest with a giant metal rail being held by complete moron.
I went in, scared out of my knickers. I went along to my boss, plan of action in hand and with my tail between my legs, in such words, asked if I can have some dates in the diary for some buyers meetings, development meetings, anything-of-any-substance meetings etc.
However, I get the feeling I'm in for much of the same admin stuff, although she did tell me that I'd be involved in some more relevant stuff. I did ask the director (ooh) if I could come with him to a river island meeting. Yes! He seems v nice.
I feel so much better putting myself out there, I'm always better when I have a plan. I like things out in the open.
Speaking of which, guess who was FAR too out in the open? With normal civilians? THE Janice Dickinson. Speaking rather obnoxiously on her 'cell'. Just call me 'Herez Hilton'.

Here's a pic of the tres scary Arcadia Group HQ. The calls to that clapper thing.

Geek Hits London: Day 5 of placement

Woke up this morning feeling positive and gradually went from bad to worse.
Sorry the post is later than usual, I'm proper stressed out at the mo.
My day was spent, yet again, filing, dropping off/picking up samples, sending UPS parcels etc. This is all fine. I just wish it was dispersed between experiences that I will take away with me. Real scenarios that I can learn from. Everyone is so busy, I feel like a bit of a nuisance and I'm y'know a little petrified of having a conversation with my boss about WHEN I'm going to be learning the cool stuff.
Boring as it is, I do think I'm going to have to assert myself in this workplace. I need to assure that they can facilitate me in order for me to do write my report based on tasks other than admin stuff. I didn't think I'd have to learn how to do this. It's guna be scary.
I'm going to rest my merry-go-round head now, hopefully tomorrow will look up :)

Geek Hits London: Day 4 of Placement

Saw this on the way to work this morning

Funny eh?
Bit of a short post as I am too busy snogging the face off my loved one. Havnt felt well today and got sent home early. It's not going to stop me though, my boss has already given me some great advice about the industry.

I have learnt, as my week has come to an end, not only alot about the company and how is processes thousands of orders etc, but I've also learnt much about office life. I have encountered some bad office attitude, and I am certain it will happen again. I guess that comes hand-in-hand with London life and a hectic job. I'd like to think that that is not true of everywhere and is fo' sure a life lesson I would like to disregard.

Geek Hits London: Day 3 of placement.

'Home is the most important place in the world'
Trust Ikea to print some BS like that on an oystercard and it's enough to stop me in my day and make me feel all blue.
I have now come to the conclusion that I am a homebird. I don't mind living in London, I don't even mind the filing. I just miss the people closest to me. Every morning at 7.30 all the workerdrones on the Picadilly Line look like they're going over the top of the trenches or something.
Today was a much better day. And the best news is that TOMORROW I get to sit in in a meeting with Penny's!! Hopefully I'll understand their Irishness. Very exciting! So happy I get to be amongst buyers and see real business rather than delivering it to reception. I do totally get that I have to be a bit of a postman pat, just JESUS do my feet kill. Sorry, this will be the last time
I mention my feet on this blog again, readers!
Speaking of which it's great that all you newbies are reading and enjoying my wierd posts. Big 'Hello' to everyone in Corfe Mullen, Jboy and my Steve - thankyou!
Also I think I'm gaining the trust of my boss little by little. I have been doing a lot less little elf things and have been calling fabric manufactures and emailing and all kinda of stuff.
Still LOTS of photocopying! I'll let you know how the meeting goes, and I'll put up some of my dress-to-impress styles that I have even workin' this week.
Keep it real guys, like I am so very much doing.

Geek Hits London : Day 2 of placement

Holy moly you should see my feet. They are swollen, red and probably stinking a horrendous day of tubes and London drizzle.
I'm afraid my posts maybe a tad similar until I get trusted with the big girl stuff.
Today was a combination of organising swatch samples into a room with about 60 gazillion folders from each factory. Whilst eating my wrap and a mullar rice amongst files and folders. It's that awkward thing - will I get judged for taking a proper lunch, away from my desk, with other cockneys keeping me company rather than mounds of files? The boss assured me I was entitled to, but will they get all fashiony if they do? They all seem to have soup at their desks....
Also did another 'drop' at Miss Selfridge, Urban Outfitters, New Look and Asos. This again involved me lugging a bits and bobs around London and making SURE the buyers get them. Very stressful. Am getting a new spot everyday.
This is very costly for a student who's fricken loan company don't know what's going down. So, I'm poor, smelly and a bit dazed but I can already tell, amazing things will happen from here. I feel at the right place at the right time. A feeling I havnt had since I was at Tesco.
I have to go, my right foot is looking gross. Hopefully I'll get to go to some meetings soon - that will be a huge insight into what the buyers want. Better get a new notebook. Night blog fans!

Geek Hits London: Day 1 of placement

Hello (*droany voice)
I'm so tired. My keypad is turning into a giant marshmallow and my vision is all mushy.
This is because I had me first day in laandan me old china. I started work at a clothing supplier and am going to be there for 3 long months so be prepared for some Devil Wears Prada esque posts. Actually hopefully not.

Like my mother, I'll keep you lucky things posted on all my comings and goings. My weekends still consists of ploughing through Primark's finest store (Poole!)and then travelling up to LDN on Sunday evening. Then I'm a 9-5 Monday-Thursday corporate stooge. More like a gofer really.

The company supplies and produces, sources and licences to huge retailers from Arcadia, Asos, New Look, River Island, Awear and many more to come.
Today was intimidating to say the least, but in every way exhilarating.
Jobs entailed;
Filing samples
Organising products
Cutting and copying
Dropping off garments to suppliers.
The latter was the most scary. I had to deliver several samples to Miss Selfridge and New Look. It was way important that I had to ensure that the buyer received the samples. Arcadia was big, tall, and full to the brim of people unwilling to help an obvious 'first day work experience girl'.
I felt like Andy delivering 'The Book'.
I can tell this side of the business I've entered is competitive, stressful and full of risk. Hopefully I'll get to meet some buyers although I quite like being in a sample cupboard. I feel like Harry Potter.
I got 3 hours sleep last night. Now I have an excuse for a poorly written blog post.
Bring on tomorrow.

The ‘I can’t believe I’m blogging about Katie Price’ post.

Yes, you hear 'Katie Price', you see this....

Yet, the UK's most tackiest queen B of glamour modelling, Jordon the former fairytale wifey of pop cheese Peter Andre (too much heat magazine) has made the prestigious fashion journal, Wonderland shot by famous British photographer Aitken Jolly.

Yes, Katie has ditched her fushia meringue dresses and bulging hot mama cleavage corsetry for this grease monkey, Kwick-Fit esque look for the magazine graced by Carey Muligan and Dizzee Rascal.

Katie hopes to break the editorial door down with this first venture and told the daily mail today THE Anna Wintor selected her for an edition of vogue in 2006.
She shouldn't have any problems then should she?!

Littlewoods 2.0?

I have JUST seen the new Littlewoods Advert with their new Style Editor, Coleen Rooney. Coleen ‘the body’ Rooney has got seriously beautiful style and is back with a bang with quite a little fashion career under her belt thanks to George at Asda largely.
Is Littlewoods set to be one of our fave E-tailers? I’ll give it a goosey gander.

Kate Moss for Topshop

It has been announced today that Phillip Green and Kate Moss have ended their 4 year business venture for Topshop.
Apparently Kate Moss can’t keep up with the workload of a new collection.
While according to the Daily Mail, Sir Phil has ‘ditched Cocaine Kate’. Surely that hasn’t been much of a concern??
Either way Kate Moss’ ‘Uncle Phil’ has given her the old heave-ho and exchanged her for a much younger model, his 19 year-old daughter Chloe.

Chloe with Daddy and celebs
Exciting stuff, this is (Yoda, lol)
Infact, Chloe Green (probably has the most AMAZING teenage life, ever) has had mucho experience in her father’s mahoosive empire. ‘I used to take Chloe to the office from about the age of eight. She used to hang out in the office with thousands of samples and see which ones are the winners and losers. ‘Buy this one Daddy’ ‘Don’t buy this one Daddy’ she used to say’. Amazingly, she had quite a good hit rate. I have a feeling I’m guna LOVE this girl,
So, now Chloe is going to make her mark with her own collections.

Kate Moss met Sir Phillip Green at a charity event in April 2006 and their (weird) relationship went on from there. A meeting was set up a week later despite the Green’s concerns about a few little snaps of her snorting cocaine with Pete Doherty. Her first (and by-far-the-best) collection was launched with over 2,000 women queueing outside Topshop Oxford Street. The entire collection flew off the shelves in 20 minutes.

Kate Moss’ collaboration with Topshop was a spark of retail genius. I preferred the earlier collections, mimicing some famous pieces and elements from Kate’s own wardrobe. Yeah sure, it was a bit pricey. Maybe that was the downfall? What do you think? We’ve heard nothing from Ms Moss’ people. Did she get the boot? Was it mutual? I do love a good scandal.

I LOVE this waistcoat. I used to wear it to Sixth Form once a week. One boy made fun of me - he said it looked like the coat of cash. :(

My lucky dress ;)

'Would you like fries with your weekly shop?'

Now I've heard everything.
The biggest cheese, Superstore Tesco launched their first 'Drive Thru Tesco at the group's Tesco Extra store in Baldock, Hertfordshire last week.
Primarily aimed at busy mummies and young working professionals shoppers will be able to nab their essentials online, park in a designated area of the car park and have their shopping loaded on the boot by one of Tesco's minions. All for the wee price of £2.
So, you can do your weekly shopping without even leaving your car. To me, this has FATTY written all over it. I can just about get that you can have shopping delivered to your house. Surely we have time in our busy lives to pop to tesco's for half an hour?
Whatever, as Rammstein have told me many times; we're all living in America.

Think woman got a little over excited.

Hurry Up Student Loan - River Island.

Oh how this is my favourite time of year :))))))
As Britain’s High Street becomes a second home for millions of fashionistas at this time of year, I’ve decided to do a wee bit of retail evaluations and don’t worry, I won’t hold back. Not like me to sugar coat stuff anyway is it?

RIVER ISLAND

'Must-Haves'
Safe to say that River Island has been one of my faveys for the last three seasons, and impeccably, they have some beautiful pieces for this A/W. I particularly like the very chic, antique-style tea dresses, rich autumnal colours and laid back daywear.
These are my ‘must-haves’

I WANT I WANT I WANT.

For all of the above and many many more, check out River Island’s new, less appealing website
http://www.riverisland.com/Online/women/get-the-look

I can see that many fashion retailer’s interweb pages are trying to specialise their choices, colours and styles a la the mighty ASOS.com, but for me, RI’s just does not work. It’s a bit like when Facebook just decides to change and you feel all wrong. Surely it was easier to use before non? I did prefer the cleaner, smoother flow of the previous look. I’m fed up of seeing unimaginative websites when theres so much that you can work with. Get it sorted.

Kissy Perry. My new girl crush.

I am now obsessed with Katy Perry. Didn't get it at first, mind you. Thought she was this scatty wierdo that MTV had created again to host all their shows.
Cynical as I am, Katy Perry has quite literally taken over my life this summer.
With what can only be described as an uber figure Katy has been all up in our grills with her own sugary sweet style. Looking cute and summery in Chanel, YSL and her ever expanding Topshop wardrobe, I am getting greener and greener by the minute.
And she has the coolest shoes now a la Alberto Guardiani.

Here's some of my favourite outfits. I hate being a civilian sometimes.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of Tali.

Watch out Lourdes, there's a new teen celeb princess amongst Fashion's Brit pack.
Presenting Tali Lennox (daughter of 80's diva Annie Lennox and Israli music and film producer Uri Fruchtmann)

Tali (right) the 16 year old(????) 5"9 babe has been signed by Select models a la Alexa Chung and has quite an astonishing portfolio already. Some of these shots are pristine.
She is so striking isn't she? The masculinity of her facial features compliment some of these lovely shots, highlighting lots of movement and exciting in some daring forms. Something tells me this ones a keeper.

Tali and her sister Lola (18) have modelled Freedom at Topshop S/S10 collections.

Right where was I? Oh yes, eating some celery and TONNES of cardio :(
