Happy Happy Team!

Following on from our teamwork PPRD lesson we had another team meeting and am feeling much much better. I was starting to worry that as our work was piling up on top us, we were losing track of the brief. But now, we are prepared for our presenataion tomorrow and we are all feeling on top of things....

:)

I think Sir Paul Smith is having a bad day...?

British designer, Paul Smith has been having a good old moan about 'the culture of today', and maybe I'm getting old or something, but I think he has a point.

"I've always preferred the creative process of designing and selling clothes to the idea of putting on a poncey fashion show," the 63-year-old explains, "It would be wonderful if fashion shows died out completely. They're so time-consuming and costly."

He went on to ramble that "the fashion world is a dangerous, superficial and fickle place."

Sir Paul built his global brand, which boasts an annual turnover of £346 million, without resorting to any gimmickry. He lured in the men first with his "classic with a twist" concept – or "Savile Row meets Mr Bean", as he puts it: serious-looking suits with a lime-green trim or a flashy lining, and plain white shirts with his signature candy-striped motif beneath the cuffs. Seemingly despite the recession, the brand has doubled its turnover in the past five years, posting a 15 per cent rise in profits to £150 million in 2008.

"So many brands are too conscious of what everybody else is doing. I like to get my inspiration elsewhere: from exhibitions, books, or even a stained-glass window."

Sir Paul's spring/summer 2010 collection bears testament to those multifarious influences. Inspired by The Gentlemen of Bacongo, all pinks, oranges and reds against earthy tones of black, taupe and ochre hints at a change of direction. Moving away from traditional tailoring, he has chosen jersey bandeaus, designed to be wrapped closely around the body and worn with voluminous printed voile skirts that billow out above the knee. On the runway last month, Sir Paul had the models in plaited top knots and wired wooden beads to complete the look: "I loved the feminine silhouette all that wrapping around creates," he smiles.
There is a self-consciousness verging on embarrassment when Sir Paul talks about fashion, which I suspect comes from the same place as his loathing of the catwalk. "At work, we don't talk about fashion – we talk about clothes."
"Frankly, I don't care what people wear. If a person is nice, with good manners, I couldn't give a damn if he's wearing a shell suit."

Yes yes yes Sir Paul some good points, but a Shell Suit? Really???

Naughty Fda!

After a very successful trip into Bournemouth town centre with Jo, I feel like I have a clearer understanding of what features are hot right now. It was clear that statement collars were key in this a/w with fur and asymmetric zips hinting at the whole biker look.
We did have to be a bit sneaky whilst in the stores when taking pictures but I did manage a few secret snaps...

Today we also had another great group tutorial. After a shakey start to the week I am feeling like we are making some real progress and we are all in agreement of the brief. Have a good weekend bloggers!

Ultimo WOW!

I just wanted to post about my inspirations as part of my devellopment on the course.
Michelle Mone founded Ultimo (MJM Limited). Ultimo revolutionised the lingerie industry and broke America with her innovative cleavage-enhancing bras.
Michelle continues to launch new products and has been recognised worldwide as one of the most successfull business women of all time, despite leaving school aged 15 with no qualifications.
This case of sheer hard-work and determination is truly inspiring. It gives me hope :)

Duality...

The key duality image that we created for our presentation.....

:(

Stress stress stress stress! AHHHH!

Thought I'd post to tell you I'm having a bit of a flap!

We had another team meeting yesterday about our new project. 'Traces'.
And now Nancy and I are about to start our concept boards and colour pallet boards ready for our scary presentation on Monday!

We have come up with the theme, 'Duality'. Expressing the split memories that mankind possess. Good and evil, happy and sad etc.

Here are some pictures of our work so far...

Technological genious!

Not really too important, but brilliant, I am currently posting on my blog from my iPhone!!! Aaaah!

First Week Back. Done.

Oh my days! Hayleigh Dalton is BACK to reality. For sure.

Here goes..

I am blogging to you currently surrounded by project briefs, learning agreements, logbooks and only a weeks full of notes but I assure you, my desk is overloading.
This first week back has been full on, to say the least, but I feel that I am back in the swing of things. I think the first year taught me to be resilient with the workload, but I am starting to realise this is nothing like the first year at all....

We have been given a blinder of a project, let me tell you.
Both us Promoters and the Designers have collabortaed to make a collection about the theme of 'memories'. We are in groups of five. Including myself we have;
Nancy(promoter)
Scott(designer)
Laura(designer)
Phillipa(designer)

Might I say. I realise it has only been a week, but I have never experienced a team quite like this one. These four are uber professional, thoughtful and creative people I have ever worked with and I am very excited about this collaboration. More on this story as it develops....
