Big day yesterday!
We got our marks and feedback from our units we'd done last term and I'm delighted to say...........I'm doing good, yeah!
I had feedback from Pat about my Pattern Cutting and Construction (PCCP)unit. I got a 'very respectable grade' and I feel good about it. Of course there is always room for improvement, especially with me. The areas that I would need to focus on would be my sketches and the ordering of my folder.
As for Design I also am happy with my mark. Not that I aim, at this stage to persue desgning, I got some relevant feedback to help me in all areas. Focusing on more attention to detail in my desin work.

Research research research....BREAKTHROUGH!
After many many MANY dead ends with my reseach for the Sports V Fashion Project for FDP, I have FINALLY gotten somewhere.
I was looking into pushing the idea of trainers after being so inspired by them at the exhibition before Christams.
Anyway, I came across, REPETTO. A French company specialising in the design of ballet pumps.
Comme Les Garcons (founded by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo) collaborated with Repetto and created ballet inspires dresses like these<<<<<
I definiately want to explore further into this!

Brrrrrr.......tutorials! :S
When we were given the project to think of our own philosophy, like the Shakers, I assumed it would be easy. Virtually a chance to play with what you believe in.
But I found the whole task quite strange. It was difficult to settle on a logical, beautiful philosophy.
After a thought process (which took longer than planned)I came up with the idea of comfort.
'You can only truly feel beautiful, when you are comfortable'.
I tried so hard with the project. I wanted it to be completely professional, much like the work I'd seen in the group critique.
Today was the tutorials with Sarah Lees and Sarah James.
I expained to them about my initaial problems with the philosophy and they commended me for questions and hard work.
From their advice I confidently know what i need to do to improve my work for January. I want to research more and more to get a more rounded view of my own philosophy.
This day, Monday 8th December, was the most beneficial days for my design work. I know what I need to do to improve.
See wasn't so bad after all eh??

Is that why they call it 'flat' drawing? :(
HUFF!
Isn't it annoying when you just can't get the hang of something straight away??
To honest, I'm finding the whole Illustrator/In design part of the course very hard. I just can't seem to remember all the little things that makes Jamie be able to copy my design in minutes.
Honestly, today I was playing with Illustrator for about 2 hours and I didn't even finish my Folk design.
Trying to have a complete blog meltdown, but I'm finding the whole importance of IT skills quite disheartening.
I know the help is there if I need it, but i just tend to panic.
On a more positive note, Zoe, Harriet and I had our first meeting about our 'Frock Exchange' fundraisor for the second years fashion show. We have decided to do it in the last week of Januray and advertise EVERYWHERE!
I shall definately keep you posted on the latest news!! V exciting isn't it??

MASS DEBATORS!
Oh my goodness I havn't discussed the Fahion debate that we did yesterday yet!
For our PPRD project, we were asked to prepare for a debate about the contraversial topics of;
'What is the point of Ethical Fashion?'
and
'What is the point of Couture?'
Being on the AGAINST team, we had a very challenging task to reserch. We had to argue the downfalls and disadvantages of Ethical Manufacture and Haute Coutute.
We gathered information, facts and figures to throw back at the FOR team for Tuesday.
All in all the debate went brilliantly! The other team came so prepared and put up a real and engaging debate.
In the end we lost the arguments against couture (which I'm a bit knarked about...obviously) and we won the Ethical arguement.
The other team were awesome. They stuck to their arguments and it was evident that both teams had researched all areas of the topics.
For someone who HATES confrontation, I loved it!! Thanks PPRD!

Construction!
Please, before I explain today's lesson, don't think that I don't love constructing garments because I do.
But.....OH MY GOD!!!!!
It can be done I am sure, BUT mine was never perfect and I did start to panic and eventualy I fell a bit behind!
I will have to go in tomorrow on the studio day to catch up.
I have to learn to listen correctly the first time and not to panivc when things go wrong!

LONDON BABY!
On Monday 27th we all took a trip up to London to do some Fabric Sourcing!
Zoe, Amelia, Sam, Tanya and I headed down to Goldhawk Road to get some samples of some heavier fabrics.
At first I was a bit annoyed that the first shop I went in refused to give us any samples. This became a problem as we realised that most heavier fabrics, like wool and leather, were expensive. Some shopkeepers were reluctant to sell us less than 1/2 a metre!
But once we did a bit of roleplaying and smiled ever so sweetly, we got some really nice samples!
We found it was effective to search for the fabrics ourselves, show an interest in its composition and not baffle them by all crowding around (like typical students!)
Oh, and we proundly got some shopping in too!! HAHA!
